Shadows

Walking down the empty street,
I joggled upon a stiff pebble.

Leaving behind,
Footprints in the muck

The rain pours,
His Footsteps, untraceable

Hazily lit street lights
As I fade away into the dark

Leave behind blurred marks
A Smear, in the shape of a dark shadow

“Leave me alone”, I yelled
His shadow, Inseparable

A reminder to the fact that he ‘was’ there
Yes, I sought out his comfort but in vain.

As radiant as a firecracker I was
But his darkness it consumed me whole

Leaving behind,
A vaguely disfigured me

He stuck by me,
No, not as a friend

But like a leech,
Slowly consuming, as he filled himself up.

Unwilling to leave me in peace,
Until he scornfully watches me drown
Into the pitch dark of the night…
